“Shovel Dedicated to An Unknown Pittsburgh Laborer” is a collaborative site specific work with artist Madeline Reed Finn. The artwork is on display at the Pittsburgh County Building and features an artifact “shovel” from the buildings original construction that was saved in the rafters of the building for unknown reasons.
The main atrium space of the Pittsburgh County Building serves as an ongoing historical record of moments in the cities history. The artwork was inspired by the lack of historical recognition for Pittsburgh workers and laborers in the County buildings main hall.
