“Liquid Bread” was a collaborative show at the Frame Gallery in Pittsburgh PA spring of 2016.
The show featured artworks by Anna Baldi, Chris Copeland and Josh Archer. The show consisted of large paintings and sculptural works, 250+ hand thrown vessels (that were up for grabs for visitors). Along with a mound of over 80 loaves of bread from a local bakery.
Liquid Bread was inspired by the truth that we as animals always think with our stomachs first, and so in order to enjoy and conceptualize artworks we first need to be fed.
The lack of food at Art galleries is a serious problem and is the real cause behind poor gallery attendance and a public that quickly glances at the art and leaves. We have all walked into an Art gallery expecting food only to leave with a piece of cheese and a soggy grape. This entirely avoidable phenomena leads the general public to feel disinterested in their cities arts. The solution… have lots and lots of bread for the guests to gnaw on as they look at art, and when they leave they will be full and satisfied.
